What a Managed Hosting Provider Can Offer

Posted on 18 March 2010 by atidorika

managed hosting provider

There are so many different options for a managed hosting provider that it can become confusing. They all basically promise a “worry-free hosting” and take care of the technical and administrative aspects of your server. This is great for businesses which do not have the expertise or manpower to deal with these hosting issues themselves. There are three basic levels of managed hosting: full, standard and under self-managed.

The first means that you are getting the highest level of attention from your managed hosting provider. Plans usually include unlimited upgrades, 24/7 monitoring and maintenance, and even full tech support for your staff. Standard hosting usually offers the same services but with limitations. For example, instead of unlimited updates, one might only be allowed so many in a given time period. Under self-managing is an interesting mix of basic management and self hosting. Because there is a very limited amount of technical support offered, one needs to have a degree of expertise in order to choose this option.

Managed web hosting isn’t always the best option if you want to have complete control over your website. You will not be able to make changes whenever you’d like and will not always be able to change scripts, software or hardware. For people who are not skilled with web hosting, this usually is not a problem. However, one must weigh whether the benefits of having a managed web hosting provider are worth it.

Do I Need Managed Web Hosting Services?

Posted on 17 March 2010 by atidorika

managed web hosting services

Before you decide on self or managed web hosting services, you should ask yourself a few questions. First of all, how can your business benefit from managed hosting? Using a managed host means increased website security, a faster server, advanced technologies, almost no downtime, and hands-free hosting. For many small businesses, these factors may not be so important, especially if they do not rely upon their website for sales or PR. For expanding companies though, a web hosting which is managed might give a leg up over the competition.

Next, think about whether your business can handle the aspects of hosting on its own. This means having the technical expertise to handle all aspects of installation and upgrades as they become necessary. Also, there must be a staff who can monitor the server to make sure it is running smoothly and know how to fix problems as they arise. Other questions to ask yourself when it comes to this is how much of your manpower resources will you need for maintenance and whether you can afford to hire on extra staff to take care of hosting.

Lastly, calculate the cost difference between choosing self hosting and managed web hosting services. Keep in mind that there are many different hosting plans available when it comes to managed hosting and each level or service comes with a different cost. Then decide which option is best for your company.

Does My Company Need a Managed Host?

Posted on 16 March 2010 by atidorika

Managed Host

Using a managed host is becoming increasingly necessary for all sizes of businesses. In today’s technology driven world, a business can really get a head start over the competition by utilizing the internet for sales or increasing their PR. Luckily, managed hosting is also becoming much more flexible with services offered and pricing options. Depending on one’s level of technical expertise and the time/resources that can be committed to web hosting will determine which plan is best for a business.

Many very small businesses can still use a shared server because they do not get high traffic volumes or need high security if internet sales are not being done. Very large businesses may have the financial resources to hire their own team for all aspects of server maintenance. For medium sized businesses, a managed host is a great way to get state of the art hosting services but for one fixed fee. This price is usually less than what it would cost to do all the work oneself.

Even though there are so many different levels of services which are offered on with a managed web host, one can expect a faster server, increased security, regular updates, technical support, maintenance and an uptime of over 99%. Before deciding on a hosting provider, ask yourself how your company will benefit, do you have the resources to manage hosting on your own, and what are the cost difference between self and managed hosting.

Managed Dedicated Server Hosting: Is it Worth It?

Posted on 15 March 2010 by atidorika

managed dedicated server hosting

When you use a managed dedicated server hosting, your site is getting its own server and being guaranteed a range of administration services. Several years ago, managed hosting was not considered a necessity for most businesses. Now, even small companies are choosing managed over self hosting. The reason for this is because of the constantly increasing dependency on the internet as well as the complexity of server maintenance. Luckily, there are a lot of different options when it comes to a dedicated and managed hosting server.

The benefits of having someone else take care of your hosting needs are vast. First of all, you will obviously have more time to devote to your business. Interestingly, paying for a managed hosting server is often more cost efficient than trying to do self hosting effectively. Providers have professional hardware and software that would cost too much to buy on your own. They take care of all the aspects of monitoring so you don’t have to hire a tech team just for managing the server.

Also, you can save a lot of money on the costs of updates and fixing problems. The most important aspects of a managed dedicated server is that you get increased speed, security and dependability. The downside of having someone else run your server for you is that you lose a degree of control. Depending on the package you choose, you may need to ask permission before making changes.

Benefits of Dedicated Managed Server Hosting

Posted on 14 March 2010 by atidorika

dedicated managed server hosting

As of now, there is no set standard for dedicated managed server hosting. While this means that your options can be confusing, it also means that you have a lot of flexibility when it comes to choosing the right managed hosting provider. No matter what plan you choose, here are some of the benefits you can expect to gain.

Hands-Free Management

A lot of time is required to keep a server running properly. By choosing a managed dedicated hosting server, you will get regular backups, updates of Firewall configuration and software, and security monitoring. If a problem arises, you can be assured that it will be fixed promptly. Your business will be able to go on without you taking time or resources to worry about the technical aspects of your website.

Increased Security

One of the biggest benefits of a dedicated server is increased security. Also, you will be able to have services such as disaster recovery and be able to restore the server in case the hardware crashes. Crashes are less likely on your own dedicated server though.

Dependability

Using managed hosting gives you optimum dependability in many ways. First of all, you are less likely to have problems because of the regular monitoring. Also, providers have state of the art hardware that can handle higher volumes and makes crashes less likely. You can expect an uptime of more than 99%.

Cost Savings

The costs of self hosting are immense once you calculate maintenance, administration and repair. Dedicated managed hosting server gives you all this for one fixed price.

How Managed Dedicated Hosting Works for You

Posted on 13 March 2010 by atidorika

managed dedicated hosting

By choosing managed dedicated hosting, you are gaining more control and stability over your web server. Because dedicated hosting means that your site will not be shared with others, there are more options for customizing hardware, script and operating system. The costs of using a managed hosting is more than choosing a self hosting server. However, in many cases, self hosting actually costs more because of the high prices of installation, finding hardware, maintenance and fixing any problems which might arise.

Rather than deal with these costs, most medium-sized businesses choose to use a dedicated managed hosting for a fixed price. Plus, dedicated servers offer a much higher degree of security which is worth paying an extra cost for. You don’t have to worry about losing revenue from downtime because a managed hosting means that you will have an uptime of at least 99%. There are many different packages when it comes to managed hosting on a dedicated server.

The main difference between all the different providers is the amount of support they offer, how many upgrades are included, and the type of hardware. There are packages available for just about every business’s hosting needs. Small businesses who don’t rely upon their web site may still be able to use a shared hosting. However, it is a time and money saving investment for larger companies to find a reputable dedicated managed hosting server.

Why Choose Managed UK Hosting

Posted on 11 March 2010 by atidorika

managed uk hosting

Managed UK hosting means that your website is running on its own server and has a professional team taking care of maintenance, updates and almost all technical aspects of the site. The only thing that managed hosting doesn’t do it take care of what information you choose to put on the site. If you are running a small or medium sized business in the UK, you probably are wondering how this really affects you. At first, it is easy to just see a managed UK hosting service as an extra cost. In most cases though, this cost pays for itself and can actually lead to increased revenues.

If your business relies upon its site for sales or PR, then you will need a dependable web server which is always online. It will also require security, speed, updates and monitoring on a nonstop or frequent basis. Some startups attempt to do self web hosting and quickly realize that the costs are just too much. First, one needs to pay for the installation and find software that is good but affordable. The real expenses usually come later though with maintenance and when unexpected problems arise.

This not only costs a lot to fix, but takes resources away from the core business goals. A managed UK hosting provider already has a dedicated server to offer, their own state-of-the-art software and can offer a variety of services depending on your needs. The best part about managed web hosting is that it is on a fix price so you don’t have to worry about any unexpected costs due to problems.

Self and Managed Hosting UK Options

Posted on 10 March 2010 by atidorika

managed hosting uk

You have several self hosting and managed hosting UK options. What you choose should be based on several factors: how much money you are able to pay for hosting, how much traffic your site receives, your amount of technical expertise and the amount of time you can dedicate to managing your web hosting. Of course, there are several more factors that play in to managed hosting choices. Before you can figure out your business priorities, it is important to look at the options available.

The first hosting option is to use a shared server. This is the most economical option because you only get a limited amount of bandwidth, space and hardware control. You do not have any say in what operating system is used and all resources are shared with other users. Thus, your website will be affected by the other users on that server. This option is good for very small businesses who don’t rely heaving on their websites and have small volumes of traffic. For the more technically savvy, there are in-house hosting options where an employee will take care of the installation and maintenance.

Managed hosting UK is a great choice for medium sized businesses and a must for larger companies. Managed hosting means that you get hardware and software for a small price and don’t have to pay an extra employee to take care of in-house hosting. There is very little downtime with managed web hosting and a company can focus on its business objectives rather than worrying about the server.

Linux Manged Hosting: Is it better than Windows?

Posted on 09 March 2010 by atidorika

managed linux hosting

Using managed Linux hosting was probably the best decision I made with my startup. I’ve worked for several companies that were always using Windows hosting, both self hosted and managed. Luckily for me, I wasn’t the boss of those self hosted businesses. I watched how much stress they went through just trying to finish the installation and then there were always crashes which would set everyone back and in a frenzy for a couple days.

Windows is okay for large companies that can afford the extra expense but I went with manged Linux hosting. The first reason is because it is so much cheaper than Windows but still offers the same or more services. I was confused how something better could be cheaper but it works like this: Linux is designed so that users around the world can adapt it to their needs. This means that there are more custom upgrades and software available for Linux.

Instead of using the exclusive program language ASP, Linux hosting uses MySQL which you can get for free. I also realized that Linux managed hosting is much more dependable than Windows. There are less crashes and even seems to work faster. Windows is still a great choice for large businesses who can afford to hire their own hosting staff or full managed services. However, for small businesses on a standard managed hosting plan, Linux is probably the best bet.
